This morning I went out into the garden, just to water the flowers and check if the cats had done their business again, as they often do. But as soon as I opened the gate, a horrible smell came over me. So strong that my chest tightened and a metallic taste appeared in my mouth.
I took a few steps and froze. On the ground, near the flower bed, something was moving. 🫣 In front of me was a strange reddish formation, viscous, as if turned upside down. She smelled like rotting meat, as if someone had hidden a dead animal nearby. I stepped back, my heart pounding, and terrible thoughts invaded my mind.
"What is this? A larva? A strange creature? Or... the remains of an alien? " — I did not understand. 😲
I took out my phone, took a photo and, holding my breath from the stench, went looking for answers on the Internet.
I typed in the search engine: "red, slimy, smelling like rot", and the first result made me shudder. He said:
"Anthur Archera – an alien mushroom, also known as Devil's Fingers.
It turned out to be a completely real mushroom, native to Australia and Tasmania, but over time it spread around the world.
At first it looks like a white egg, but then red tentacles come out, like claws or devil's fingers.
⇆
These tentacles are covered in sticky mucus and give off a horrible smell of carrion to attract flies and spread their spores.
People who see it for the first time often think they are coming across something extraterrestrial. Some even call the police or emergency services.
I was also shocked when I realized that this "creature" in my garden was just a –living, strange mushroom and perhaps one of the most sinister life forms created by nature.
Now I walk around this place every day. I no longer water the flowers.
Let it grow – the "gift of the devil" must not be disturbed.
