The chin button: a hidden message from your body?

We've all had this moment: an important meeting, an outing with friends, and presto! A red, annoying pimple sits prominently on our chin. But why does this particular area seem so prone to eruptions? And above all, what really hides this signal that our skin sends us? Hint: It's not just about poorly chosen cream...

Why do pimples appear on the chin?

The hormonal roller coaster

For many women, hormones are on a roller coaster ride... and our chin is shaken! It is often around the menstrual cycle that pimples appear, in particular because of a spike in androgens which stimulates the sebaceous glands. Result: more sebum, clogged pores... and a pimple, sometimes deep and painful.

Other periods of life also promote these hormonal imbalances: pregnancy, stopping or changing contraception, or even certain disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). And there no wonder the skin reacts!

The plate can also play spoilsport

What we eat is often reflected on our skin. A diet too rich in sugars, dairy products or ultra-processed foods can increase inflammation and unbalance hormones. Clearly, a diet that stimulates insulin production can indirectly accentuate rashes, particularly on the lower face.

Little advice: choose a foodvaried tion, rich in fiber, fresh vegetables and good fats such as olive oil or oilseeds. And see if it has any effect on your flare-ups!

Our daily actions can make things worse

A beauty routine... not so beautiful

Sometimes it's our toiletry bag that plays tricks on us. Treatments that are too rich, comedogenic or unsuitable for our skin type can clog pores. What if we forget to remove makeup after a long day? Hello buttons!

Another common mistake: wanting to do too well. Too aggressive cleaning or repeated exfoliations can weaken the skin barrier and cause overproduction of sebum. It is better to avoid overdoing it, and favor gentle, non-comedogenic treatments adapted to our skin.

Sleep with makeup on

Sometimes it's our toiletry bag that plays tricks on us. Treatments that are too rich, comedogenic or unsuitable for our skin type can clog pores. What if we forget to remove makeup after a long day? Hello buttons!

And above all, never sleep with makeup on! Even if fatigue sometimes prevails, leaving foundation, mascara or lipstick on the skin overnight prevents the epidermis from breathing and can cause clogged pores, inflammation, or even localized imperfections, particularly on the chin. Good makeup removal, followed by gentle cleansing, remains essential every evening to limit the risk of breakouts.

Stress, that sneaky trigger

When we are tense, our body releases cortisol, a hormone that can increase sebum production. Result: pores become clogged more easily. A vicious cycle... which often ends on our chin.

Taking a few minutes each day to breathe deeply, do some meditation, or just relax can really make a difference. What if we added a dose of well-being to our beauty routine?

The little things you don't suspect

Contact, often underestimated

You don't always realize it, but putting your hand on your chin (while thinking, for example) can be enough to transfer bacteria. Same thing for phones, masks or pillowcases that we don't wash regularly.

Frequent cleaning of these surfaces and attention to our small daily actions can avoid many inconveniences.

And what about cosmetics in all this?

Certain lip balms, beard oils (if your companion shares the bathroom!) or face creams may be too rich for this sensitive area. The same goes for hair removal or shaving, which can irritate the skin and promote the appearance of pimples.

The key? Monitor your skin's reactions to each new product, and don't hesitate to gradually remove any that seem to be causing problems.
